DiEMTV Goes Local - A Black Feminist Approach with Minna Salami

El Evento

Myriam Zekagh interviews Minna Salami, Ms Afropolitan, author of Sensuous Knowledge: a Black Feminist Approach for everyone.

Minna Salami, Ms Afropolitan, is a prominent activist within African Feminisms. Her Nigerian, Finnish and Swedish roots have endowed her with a unique voice which integrates her European heritage with a profound embodiment of rich African philosophical traditions. With these tools she brings a deeply insightful and personal narrative to the conversation around the devastating effects of colonial capitalism. These effects, related to environmental and other forms of structural racism, have been exposed by multiple interconnected crises from the climate emergency to the coronavirus pandemic. The growing Black Lives Matter movement reminds us of this.

Minna’s book Sensuous Knowledge, published in March this year, has as its subtitle 'A Black Feminist Approach for Everyone' and in this lies a clue to her authenticity. Beyond her exposure of the insidious injustices of, what she terms, our "Europatriarchal" society lies a vision of what can unite us in order to “build back better” in the interests of all human beings. Do not miss DiEMTV Goes Local's event on Friday 10th July 2020, where we listen to Minna's solutions during this critical moment!
