Why we need public universal childcare?

Az Esemény

Coming on Diem25 Dublin Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGB9rV1KRDA

Current private led Irish childcare system is on the brink of collapse. The pandemic has exposed its many vulnerabilities. The present system is very fragmented in terms of offer and quality standards and cannot satisfy the family needs.

A recent analysis produced by the Oireachtas research unit has suggested that

the introduction of universal, public ECEC [Early Childhood Education and Care]  could improve affordability, accessibility and quality in the sector.

The desktop report was produced by the Oireachtas Library & Research service, which is charged with producing impartial briefings on policy issues for the Oireachtas.

We will explore the advantages of a systematic change for early childhood services in Ireland in a conversation with Professor Mathias Urban.

Mathias Urban, PhD, is Desmond Chair of Early Childhood Education, and Director of the Early Childhood Research Centre (ECRC) at Dublin City University, Ireland (DCU). He works on questions of policy related to diversity and equality, social justice, evaluation and professionalism in education and care systems for young children, families and communities in diverse socio-cultural contexts. Before joining DCU Mathias held the position of Froebel Professor of Early Childhood Studies and Director of the Early Childhood Research Centre at the University of Roehampton, London, United Kingdom.
